While building Baldock's new Library on the site of the Simpson's Brewery they had to deal with the old wells from the brewery which workers had dug to get to the water below. |

Looking at the old photo's of Simpson's Brewery I can see that the new library building, shown here, has some of the same features of the original brewery. The new library building is not nearly as big as the old Simpson's Brewery which basically completely filled the gap from the old engine house, now part of Baldock Community Centre, across the whole of the entrance to Simpson drive and across the entire site the new library! |

The previous Baldock Library was behind the town hall in Bell Row, a very short bit of road that cuts through from Hitchin Street to Baldock High Street. Once the new Baldock Library was in use the old library building was later used by car audio specialists as show rooms. It has now become a restaurant with one of the three shop fronts being bricked up. |
