Baldock Bypass
Temporary
Bridge being constructed on the A507
Our new bypass around Baldock
is on the move and we have seen evidence that work has started, well
at least the beginnings of early preparations.
Full construction is due to start in spring 2004 and we are told will
take around 2 years to complete with the bypass opening sometime in
2006.
Just
in case you don't already know here is a quick run down on what
is going to be happening. The dual carriageway on the A505 that
leads to Royston and stops about 2 miles short of Baldock will be
continued round Baldock and join on to the short section of dual
carriageway that already exists on the Letchworth/Baldock Gate roundabout
on the A1(M), junction 9.
We will be getting a few new
roundabouts, bridges over the bypass and to keep the hill line intact
a short cut and fill tunnel will be built to help prevent scaring of
the landscape.
Services are being routed
out of the way, water mains, phone lines and powers lines. The water
'mains diversion' have already been very busy
laying new pipes and lowering others so the bypass can run over
them.
Now
we have been taking some photos and plan to keep a record of construction
for all of you that are interested. Myself, I have a great interest
as I live just by the bypass route and the A505 as I know it now
will soon become a dead end road.
Please do feel free to contact
me if you have any questions.

Photos of Baldock Bypass
To try and keep
the photos we have taken in some sort of organised fashion we
have divided Baldock Bypass map up into six grid sections.
This project is
going to take a few years to compleate so we are expecting to
have a few photos to try and keep organised. |
