Grid
two covers the northern end of Baldock bypass where the single carriageway
A505, Royston Road, leads into Baldock or away towards Ashwell,
Royston and Cambridge. We also see the Wallington Road which is
to be redirected due to the bypass.
In grid two the new
dual carriageway starts to move away from the existing A505 road
while
dropping in to a cutting and passing under a new bridge to be built
over the bypass.
The new bridge over
Baldock bypass will be used to link two new roundabouts together
forming a new junction to the bypass, Royston Road and Wallington
Road.
The
new roundabout on the western side of thebypass carriageway will
have the existing Royston Road redirected through it and provide
both on and off access to the northbound bypass carriageway and
a link via a bridge over the bypass to the eastern roundabout.
The roundabout on
the eastern side of Baldock bypass as well as providing the on and
off access to the south bound carriageway will also have the redirected
Wallington Road joining it.
The existing Royston
Road will become an access road from the bypass roundabout to Baldock
with the street lighting extended up to the junction. There will
also be a separate access road from the bypass roundabout using some
of
the
existing
Royston
Road
leading
to The
Firs.
The remaining
Wallington Road will become a bridleway. Effectively the Wallington
Road will no longer
lead in to the south of Baldock but join the existing Royston Road,
currently the A505 and enter the town towards the north.
