Front cover design Jeremy Ruston

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Cover Design: Jeremy Ruston
Word Processing: Judith Catterick
Elizabeth Poole
Page make-up: Word Design Technology, Clifton
Overall production: Cortney Publications

This is a special issue of the Ashwell Yearbook, containing not only the Village Appraisal but also a copy of the Minutes of the first meeting of the Parish Council and a contemporary (?) local press report of the Poll which elected it, to celebrate 100 years’ service

In my researches, I have been much helped by Jean Gilman, David Short, Albert Sheldrick, Bessie Wallace, Herts Record Office, and Hitchin Museum.

Jeremy Ruston, with a little help from Susan Morris and from me designed the front cover, uncovering the remarkable part computer technology can play in facilitating design. We are most grateful to Jeremy, who also designed the cover of the Appraisal where it is being issued as a self-contained document. As ever, Liz Poole has been a great help on the Yearbook itself.

I sincerely hope that the contents of both Year Book and Appraisal will be read thoroughly, as they are both interesting and informative.

Ashwell Year Book 1995

The Seventh edition of the yearbook is a record of the various village activities of the past year. It also includes a full report of the Village Appraisal - the forms which were filled in by 70% of the householders in the village - a very good response. A busy and active committee chaired by Margaret Budgen and assisted by Paul Jeffery have collated the information into a report that updates the 1975 observations and conclusions.

Liz Poole our Parish Clerk, and Norman Gurney have produced this edition which is provided free to all householders in the village. My thanks to both of them for the work they have done and thanks also for the support of the advertisers who keep the cost of this publication to a minimum.

Best wishes for 1995.

Sam Wallace
Chairman, Ashwell Parish Council
